Rear Projection Television Lamps And How To Prolong Their Lifespan

Rear projection televisions will require a replacement of the lamp or bulb at one point or another. The higher end models will give you more than 8,000 hours lifespan before you need to replace them. Replacement lamps do not come cheap but there are ways in which you could make them stretch longer.

1. Once you get your set home set your light and color settings to the best minimum for your viewing pleasure as they are usually set to the highest point in the store, which eats the bulb life out of your lamp. For example, Sony KDS R60XBR1 has Vivid, Standard and Pro settings and it is always set to Vivid in the store you may want to change that.

2. Clean your air filters regularly because air is used to cool your lamp, hence the need for a good flow. The cooler the lamp the longer it will last.

3. If you buy an extended warranty ensure that it also covers the replacement of the lamp, how many and make sure it is in writing. Initially most basic warranties will cover lamp replacement.

4. The best way to replacement a lamp is to go the original store where you bought your set. You can choose to replace it yourself or have someone do it for you. In any case your owner's manual should have instructions on how to do it safely.

The good news is if you buy a high end rear projection set like Sony, LG or Samsung you will not have to spend a fortune to replace your lamp unlike for less well known brands. Higher end models also have a longer bulb life as opposed to the cheaper models, most averaging 5,000- 8,000 hours.
